FEMMES, curated by Pharrell Williams

Conceived by Pharrell Williams and presented at Galerie Perrotin's storied Parisian headquarters in the Marais, FEMMES is a group exhibition celebrating the power, presence, and vital contributions of Black women to art and culture. The show brings together 39 artists across generations — from Betye Saar, aged 99, to the 30-year-old painter Kathia St. Hilaire.

Among the artists included are Dr Esther Mahlangu, Carrie Mae Weems, Betye Saar, Zanele Muholi, Nina Chanel Abney, Mickalene Thomas, Tschabalala Self, Kapwani Kiwanga, Chiffon Thomas, Kennedy Yanko, Leslie Hewitt, Theresa Chromati, Kathia St. Hilaire, Zéh Palito, Henry Taylor, Todd Gray, and Jess Atieno.

"It was exciting to imagine what could be done to bring our collaboration to another level." — Emmanuel Perrotin

Williams — then newly appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton's men's collection — described the show as an "installation itself" and a "festival that will continue to grow," offering reverence to "Black thought and estrogen." The exhibition extended a long-standing collaboration between Williams and gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin, who first teamed up for the 2008 exhibition Perspectives and later the 2014 group show G I R L.

FEMMES was on view at Perrotin, Paris, from 20 March to 19 April 2025.
